Colourful Tees With Black Knits and Skinny Jeans

Two black jeans, black Converse and black knit outfits for the school run and working from home. Both of these outfits feature a pop of colour from my tees, against all of the black.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

The first time I wore this purple tee I paired it with a lot of black, and really liked the resulting outfit, so I tried it again and also loved this outfit too! This time I went with a plain black knit, this cosy cocoon cardigan, and my Sass and Bide Playman printed skinny jeans to add a little more interest to my outfit.

Everything else was really muted and dark and neutral and I think it made the purple tee pop even more! It was a warmer day so I was able to skip the scarf too, and wear this bronze foil necklace I thrifted recently, it's nice with the purple. It actually ended up being such a warm day I was able to go without the cardigan later in the afternoon, after working from home and when running a couple of errands before school pick up.

Why I wore it:

This was a cooler day than the one above so I was glad I'd chosen to wear this cosy knitted poncho. It keeps me so warm in winter! Just like in the outfit above, I went with a colourful tee and a lot of black. The knit added some extra print and interest, and I really like this knit with pink tees, it's not the first time I've worn this combination. Again I wore my black Converse and black skinny jeans, but I felt this outfit needed a little extra colour so I added the pink Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC I recently redyed.

Just like the first outfit, I was able to go without a scarf and picked one of my recently thrifted necklaces to wear. I liked the neutral beads with the pink and black outfit.

This was nice and comfortable for working from home and then the school run in the afternoon.

Tiered Midi Dresses, Blue Scarves and Superstar Sneakers

Adding a touch of navy to these colourful Kmart tiered midi dresses with printed scarves for winter office days.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

While the faded electric blue 5 zip bag, dark navy suede moto jacket and tile print scarf are all different shades I though they looked nice with the orange tiered midi dress. I wear this dress with blue a lot, I always like blue and orange together. I did have a little matchy-matchy with the navy tassel earrings matching the tassels on the scarf, and that made me happy.

I find I'm reaching for this dress and similar ones quite a lot recently, as we get closer and closer to spring in Brisbane it isn't too cold to be going out with bare ankles, even on the early morning commute to the office as I had on this day.

Why I wore it:

I wish it had been a drier day so it wasn't so dark and cloudy when I took outfit photos in the morning, as I loved the colours in this outfit but it was hard to capture before rushing off into the city. It's not the first time I've worn this little lilac Polene Numero Neuf mini bag with a pink dress, the colour looks so good with a bright fuchsia. And while it is the first time I've worn the cobalt leather jacket with the fuchsia pink dress I do love wearing this dress with shades of blue.

I couldn't resist adding a few more shades of blue like I did in the outfit above, with the turquoise earrings and the navy bird print scarf. This was so cheerful and colourful, I loved this outfit. Perfect for a day in the office with some colleagues from outside Brisbane.

Tiered Maxi Dresses and Leopard Print Scarves

Adding a little extra colour and print to two Kmart tiered maxi dress outfits for Brisbane's winter with leather jackets and leopard print scarves.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

Felt this scarf was overdue a wear - an impulse $5 sale buy when I walked past a store years ago, I still love it today! With the denim tiered maxi dress, I felt it added a nice pop of colour and print, and with the black leather jacket, kept me cosy for a cold winter day. I had the school run, an appointment for my youngest, then dropping him off at school for the rest of the day and running a few errands myself before school pick up.

The Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bag was a practical choice to carry all the little extras I needed over the day. The navy Sketchers sneakers were a practical choice too as the appointment was at a specialist a bit of a drive away and I needed something comfortable to wear on my knee with all that driving, as I aggravated my old knee injury again when walking the dogs.

Why I wore it:

Surprised to see I haven't worn this orange tiered midi dress with this cobalt jacket before, it's such a fun and colourful winter combination! I needed a little extra warmth for an early morning appointment for myself, and yet more errands. I added the leopard print scarf just like in the outfit above for a little extra print. I liked this outfit formula in both of these resulting outfits, it was good to wear it again!

I did end up taking the jacket off when it warmed up a little later that morning though, wasn't a necessity for a little opshop browsing I did before I headed home. Just like the outfit above, I'd picked the Rebecca Minkoff Cupid bag to wear as I had a few things and some paperwork to carry around.

Coral Dresses, Blue Scarves and Leather Jackets

Two very similar outfits for winter office days - colourful coral dresses with black leather jackets, bright blue scarves and my Rebecca Minkoff Love Too bag.

Why I wore it:

I really liked this outfit! It was a colder day but with a slip under this dress, my cosy cobalt scarf and the thick leather jacket on top I didn't feel too cold from having my bare ankles popping out from under the dress. By the time I was back from the office and picking the kids up from school I was even warm enough to take the jacket off. Definitely appreciated and needed it on the cold morning commute though!

With the bright coral tiered midi dress I knew this blue scarf would look great. The deep teal Love Too bag is a different shade of blue with this outfit but I think it really worked with this colourful dress. I loved this outfit, colourful for a colder winter day.

Why I wore it:

This outfit I did not love as much as the one above. Very similar with a slip under a midi dress, a warm black leather jacket, sneakers and a cosy blanket scarf. This Louis Vuitton shawl is one of the warmest scarves I have. However I didn't really think this outfit through. I like this dress for work, I've worn it a few times, and the midi dress and leather jacket and cosy scarf combination worked well for the first outfit above.

With this midi dress being a wrap dress though, walking through the city in the morning to get into the office I realised the error of my ways as the wrap dress opens a little at the base as you walk, which left a lot more of my legs exposed to the cold than in the outfit above. I was glad to get into the heated office, and will be keeping this dress only for warmer days!

Tiered Denim Dresses With Pink Scarves And Bags

Sticking with easily repeatable outfit formulas again, pairing my two tiered denim dresses with pink scarves and Rebecca Minkoff bags recently.

What I wore:

Why I wore it:

I really loved this outfit! It was perfect for winter as although my knees were bare the tall boots kept my legs warm, and with a slip under the denim dress and the pink striped scarf I was nice and cosy. The berry pink of the Rebecca Minkoff MAC bag doesn't match the colours in the scarf exactly, but I liked the two accessories together against the pale denim dress. Really need to wear this dress more, before it heats up too much for it!

This was a nice easy and colourful outfit for the school run and working from home.

Why I wore it:

First wearing of this denim tiered maxi dress my mum picked up for me when we were shopping at Kmart recently. It's a really thick and cosy denim, so I went bare armed for a morning in the sun taking part in a citizen science event with the kids. It warmed up quite a lot, after the fog of the morning lifted and I was considering removing the scarf. It was nice to have on in the air-conditioning in the afternoon though when we went to a kids birthday party.

I really like the ombre pink scarf with the pink Rebecca Minkoff mini MAC bag I redyed, even though just like in the outfit above the pink in the scarf and bag don't match exactly.

With the long line of this denim maxi dress I thought I'd try just a simple crossover scarf and leave it long and loose - something a little different but I liked the long line the scarf created with this dress.

Coated Skinny Jeans, Converse and Winter Knits

I picked up these coated denim jeans at the opshop last month to give them a try. And despite worrying at first they looked too much like leggings, I've realised how fun they war to wear! Not sure how they will go in the warmer weather, but for cold winter days they have kept me nice and warm, especially paired with cosy knits like in these outfits.

Why I wore it:

The first time I wore these jeans I worried they looked too like leggings so I paired them with a long tunic tee. This time around I wore this cosy knit to keep me warm, and tucked it in to the waist to show off the jean zipper details and pockets a little better. I really liked the rich wine colour of the knit with the neutral taupe skull scarf too, and with the black coated jeans and black Converse I felt like adding a little extra colour with this fun hand painted bag.

I really liked this outfit - with the ribbed texture of the knit and the coated denim textures together it looked lovely. Perfect for the school run, a quick visit to a friend, and then working from home before school pick up in the afternoon.

Why I wore it:

It was the perfect weather for this cosy knitted poncho on this day! I again wore my coated denim jeans, just like in the first outfit, I like the coated denim and the added texture of a chunky knit on top. With the black and white knit and the black jeans and again the black Converse, then the black Mimco Mim-Mazing crossbody bag though, this outfit definitely need a little extra colour! It was the perfect excuse to wear the purple tee mum bought for me on our last shopping trip. I love the colour, it is a really rich purple that pops against all of the black.

Really liked wrapping myself up in this cosy knit for the school run, working from home, and then an appointment for my son in the afternoon.

Layering Summer Pieces In Winter Outfits

I thrifted a few summer pieces at the opshop in July, back before the cold winter weather really hit in Brisbane. I was so eager to wear my new finds that I tried layering them up for winter on working from home days despite the colder temperatures.

What I wore:

Skirt: thrifted NWT Beginning Boutique Sahara red-orange maxi skirt (new purchase)
Shoes: thrifted white leather Chuck Taylor All Star Converse sneakers
Bag: MIMCO Mim-Mazing crossbody bag in black and light gold

Why I wore it:

I love the colour of this maxi skirt! It was new with tags so definitely worth the $7 I paid for the $89.99 RRP! It was marked as 'Sahara Red' but it's the perfect bold mix of red and orange and I'm excited to wear it again when the weather is warmer. I layered it up with a bright cobalt leather jacket for warmth, and then this also thrifted grey tunic tee for a nice neutral. I skipped the scarf as I felt warm enough with the jacket and long maxi skirt. I was working from home, with a little break for the school run and taking the pups to the vet.

Will definitely have to try this skirt with more blue again next time I wear it, I loved how the leather jacket popped against the bright skirt.

Why I wore it:

Unlike the outfit above, I didn't enjoy this one as much. It looks nice, just wasn't very practical! This thin sundress needed a slip underneath, as well as fleece lined leggings, tall boots, my suede moto jacket and the big cobalt blanket scarf to make it cosy enough for the morning school run. It was certainly comfortable enough for working from home after too, before the school pick up in the afternoon.

However despite having the slip underneath it kept clinging to the leggings and riding up and I had to keep pulling it down, so frustrating to wear. I know I will enjoy this dress so much more when I can wear it with bare legs when it heats up again. Just not a good piece to try winterising. The much needed suede jacket also covered up the fun statement bell sleeves of the dress, so this will remain a firm warm weather only piece in my wardrobe!

Why I wore it:

This was a very good day to be in the office, with a few colleagues I hadn't seen in person for a while being in. It was so fun to catch up!

The cold morning made me want jeans, and I thought I had better dress up the zip detail jeans a little for an in-office day. This jewel tone blouse was great to make the jeans a little more formal, and it always gets compliments. I just love the berry colour!

Added a few silver accessories with the layered Tiffany necklaces and the Mimco stud earrings, even though the hardware on the hand painted Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote bag is gold I felt the mixed metals were far enough apart that it worked.

Why I wore it:

These pink frayed hem jeans would have been a firm casual Friday choice before the pandemic, but they fit right into the relaxed office vibe now with jeans an everyday of the week thing. My leader once removed loves them and compliments the colour every time I wear them. Since I like pink and blue together, the navy blouse seemed like a great choice with the pink. I didn't add any necklaces to this as the blouse has studded hardware on it already, and just tied it up to add a bit of detail at the neckline.

I was glad I tied the neckline up as without a scarf it was a little chilly in the morning, although this lined trench was easily buttoned up to keep me warmer. Again I wore the little hand painted Rebecca Minkoff mini MAB tote bag, I think that the blue and purple florals looked great with the pink jeans.

Stripe Dresses With Matching Scarves and Bags

With the cold winter weather in Brisbane lately (it's dropped down to 9 or 7 degrees Celsius some mornings!) I've gotten wear from some more winter pieces with these trench coats that are great for cold morning commutes. Wore them with some striped dresses as I felt I was wearing a lot of jeans and needed something a bit different.

With these neutral outfits I added colourful bags and coordinating scarves to brighten them up.

Why I wore it:

It was good to get this trench coat out again! It's a favourite year after year. It's cosy and lined and perfect for a cold winter morning. I layered a slip under this navy stripe shift dress too, and some cosy fleece lined tights with the ankle boots to keep me warm.

With the dark navy and black stripes and the black tights and boots, I added more colour with the mustard scarf and the yellow Rebecca Minkoff Mini 5-zip bag. The scarf and bag aren't an exact match together but I still liked the two yellows against the neutral dress.

While it was a cold morning, it thankfully warmed up at lunch time. I was able to leave my jacket behind when I headed to a nearby restaurant, and still be warm enough. The trench was certainly back on for the afternoon commute home though!

Why I wore it:

I liked the outfit above so much that I created a very similar one with this other navy striped shift dress I have, this white and navy dress was an opshop find. Again I tried to coordinate my bag and scarf together, with this green mini 5 zip bag and the green shades in the printed scarf. I even added a little yellow into this outfit with the mustard tassel earrings to match the scarf print! Just like the outfit above, the colours in the accessories don't match exactly, but I really liked the combination.

With these tall leather boots and black leggings I was nice and cosy, and actually a bit too warm in the office! The navy trench coat was very much needed on both the commute into the office and home again in the afternoon though, and I was grateful for the warmth of it when we had a couple of errands to run after I picked the kids up from school in the afternoon too.
